James 5

In James 5, James continues to press home the concept, of the foolishness of making earthly plans without placing God at the centre of those plans. James strongly rebukes the life lived, in pursuit of riches as a primary focus, as your last days treasure will only be condemnation.

The cries of the afflicted & exploited have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts. Judgement day is looming. Be patient, humble, & lowly saints of God, the coming of the Lord is at hand. Stop your grumblings & groanings against each other, lest we face judgment for our complaining.

Job is presented as the example of triumphing whilst standing & persevering & enduring in faith with God. We should let our “Yes” be “Yes,” & our “No,” “No,” – people of integrity, people of our word. If you’re suffering, bring the matter to God in prayer. If you’re cheerful – sing Psalms of praise to God. If you’re sick, have godly elders pray for you, & anoint you with oil in the name of the Lord. But James isn’t giving a guarantee of healing for all sickness.

The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Surround yourself with godly people of prayer. Go find the Elijah types living near you – the earnest & effective people of prayer. Saints should be turning the lost back to the truth of Christ. Helping turn lost sinners from their errant ways. See their souls saved from death, & their multitude of sins covered (removed) by the blood of the Lamb.
