Philippians 2:1-7
In Philippians 2 – Paul does all he can to exhort Christians to engage their minds. To be of the One – Christ-like mind, living in the love of Christ. We each should do nothing motivated by selfish ambition or conceit. We must be humble & esteem others better than ourselves. Paul instructs us to look out for the interests of others.
& then Paul speaks of the emptying of Christ, leaving the glories of heaven to live humbly as a man on earth. & from Paul’s remarkable description of the humility of the Son of God. The Kenosis Heresy has arisen, which demotes Jesus to less than fully God whilst He lived on earth. & I’ll try to unpack this Kenosis Heresy in this message.
Philippians 2:8-30
Today we’re picking up – at Philippians 2: 8. Paul is in the middle of explaining that Jesus who is & always has been fully God. Showed incredible humility in leaving the glories of heaven to become a man. The Son went as low as you could go descending into Sheol. & the Father raised Him up as high as you could ascend. One day – Every knee shall bow & every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord.
Paul instructs Christians to work out our own salvation with fear & trembling. He instructs us not to complain or argue but to be become blameless & harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked & perverse generation. To shine as lights in the dark world, to hold fast – the word of life till the rapture.
& Paul encourages Christians to esteem such men, as are willing to risk their life for the Lord. Men who’ll endure hardship & deprivation without pay for the furtherance of the gospel.
