Exodus 11 – Jehovah verse Khonsu (Egypt’s greatest god)
The subtext to the 10 plagues, is Ex 5: 1-2: “Afterward Moses & Aaron went in & told Pharaoh, “Thus says Jehovah Elohim of Israel: ‘Let My people go that they may hold a feast to Me in the wilderness.’ ”And Pharaoh said, “Who is Jehovah, that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know Jehovah, nor will I let Israel go.” ” Pharaoh & Egypt, have witnessed the first 9 terrible plagues. The final plague, is now approaching release. Pharaoh & Egypt by now should’ve known, who Jehovah was. At very least, he (& they) should’ve feared & obeyed Him. Even if they wouldn’t worship Him. Also after 400 long years of slavery. The Israelites needed to know, who YHWH was. Due to their long subjugation, they assumed the gods of Egypt were supreme over YHWH. Now the sons of Israel knew, who YHWH was: The delivering, promise keeping, literal prophecy fulfilling, all powerful God – over all things. Their obedience to His subsequent directives will prove this. As wider Egypt’s failure to obey, will be a final demonstration of their continued opposition.
