Exodus 12a – Battle of the (G)god’s – part VI
Exodus 12 is the conclusion to the Battle of the Gods. It’s the high-water mark of the book. The climax of the drama. The 10th plague (or judgment) of God is unleashed on Egypt. In Exodus 4 (before any of the plagues), God told Pharaoh, Israel was His firstborn son. Let My son go Pharaoh (let My people Israel go), or – I will kill your firstborn son. The 1st 9 plagues, were a warning to Egypt, that God was planning to kill Egypt’s firstborn sons. When God says something, He follows through on His warnings (an important lesson for parents). The god’s of Egypt in this chapter, are confirmed as finally & comprehensively defeated. The people of Egypt pay the price of their guilt, of ignoring God’s grace. They’ll experience death. The death of their firstborn. In Exodus 12, we have the feast of Passover & the feast of unleavened bread introduced. This chapter also confirms, a critical Biblical truth. Without shedding of blood, there is no remission (no forgiveness of sins). Our righteous God can’t simply overlook sin. There’s a price to pay for sin. The wages of sin is death. Death follows sin. Blood must be shed to pay the wages of sin.
