Exodus 19 – Rapture prefigured at Sinai
In Exodus 19, Israel arrive, at Mount Sinai. Israel are now a redeemed people, but they come to Sinai to receive the Law of God. They’re redeemed, but they need instructions for living. They need direction for sanctified living. The law was a guide & a measuring stick. To reveal their sinfulness & need for a redeemer. Israel would ultimately misinterpret the purpose of the Mosaic law. They came to believe righteousness could be obtained, by a strict observance of the Law. They came to believe they could attain a personal righteousness, that could satisfy the living God. But no one but Christ, fulfills the law of God perfectly. No one is able to live a life, that measures up, to the standards of a Holy God. The Mosaic covenant didn’t overrule or supersede the Abrahamic covenant. The law was a school master to prepare Israel for the kingdom of Messiah to come. The Abrahamic covenant still stood, & it was unconditional for Israel. But this covenant at Sinai, had obligations & requirements for Israel to fulfill. Unlike the Abrahamic covenant, the Mosaic covenant was conditional.
