Exodus 21 – God given rights to slaves & unborn babies

In Exodus 21 we see the laws of Moses beginning to be handed down. Israel have just come out of 400 years of Egyptian slavery. So the first rulings Moses gives, relates to slavery. Moses gave basic rights & protections – for slaves. He distinguishes between Hebrew & Gentile slaves. Male & female slaves. Moses confirms capital punishment for certain serious crimes, including the death sentence, for a child striking (or cursing) their parents. Signaling for us the importance of families. Then Moses elevates the pregnant woman & her unborn child. A decent society must go to great lengths to protect a mother & her baby. & Moses deals practically with various types of accidents that result in costly outcomes.
