Genesis 4: 1-9

Genesis 4: 1-9 – Cain & Abel – The shockwaves of sin, or put another way, this chapter begins the fruit of sin. Sibling rivalry followed by jealousy, followed by disobeying God, followed by murder, followed by petulance directed towards God. Sin is like a crouching lion, poised, ready to strike and overpower anyone who opens the door of their life to sin. Cain was a religious man, he wanted to come to God on his terms. He offered God the work of his hands, a bloodless sacrifice, which God rightly rejected. Salvation comes only through the blood of the Lamb of God, & that is why the best of the flock (the fat of the crop), the firstborn, spotless lamb was to be offered to God. An offering that prefigured the perfect sacrifice made by the promised serpent seed head bruiser.

Genesis 4: 10-15

Genesis 4: 10-15 – Cain what have you done? We investigate in this study the immediate fallout from Cain’s murder of Abel. We also glean through the New Testament references to Cain & Abel to see what else we can learn about the twins. From the Gospel of Luke we uncover that Abel was the first human prophet of God.

Genesis 4: 16-26

Genesis 4: 16-26 – A new hope – The line of Seth. We start by taking a brief look at the line of cursed Cain, to 8 generations. A Godless line, a cursed line, leading to more sin and leading to polygamy.

The narrative then takes us back to Adam & Eve. God blesses them with another son named Seth, to replace their beloved prophet & son Abel. To Seth was born a son named Enosh, and men began to call on the name of the Lord in Enosh’s day. Suggesting he was a great man of God that inspired others to worship God. Teaching us that after a great tragedy, God can bring about a new and wonderful hope. From Seth & Enosh’s line, would ultimately come the Messiah, the Seed of the woman, who would crush the head of the serpent.
