Israel have just come out of 400 years of Egyptian slavery. So the first rulings Moses gives, relates to slavery. Moses gave basic rights &amp; protections &#8211; for slaves. He distinguishes between Hebrew &amp; Gentile slaves. Male &amp; female slaves. Moses confirms capital punishment for certain serious crimes, including the death sentence, for a child striking (or cursing) their parents. Signaling for us the importance of families. Then Moses elevates the pregnant woman &amp; her unborn child.
